About The Texas Rifles

What we are all about?

Most reenacting groups portray infantry units, although a few portray artillery and cavalry organizations. The Texas Rifles is a premier infantry unit specializing in a mid-to-late war Confederate and US Army Regulars impressions. We stress the authentic and accurate portrayal of the average soldier of the day in the field. As a recruit, you will be trained as a private soldier learning the actual military drills and commands from the official manuals of the Confederate or Union Army. Military discipline is maintained much as it was in Civil War volunteer regiments: by election and consent of the majority. Our officers are elected annually and our non-commissioned officer staff is appointed by ability and experience. The leadership of the Texas Rifles can boast of over 75 years of collective experience in the hobby. As a prospective member, you will be heartily welcomed and quickly make friends among veterans and recruits alike.

Company G

Our main objective is to bring our members an experience, and a hobby, that is rewarding, challenging, and most of all fun. We work hard on authenticity and accurate drill so that our members get the most out of the events we participate in. When you combine that with the great times we spend swapping stories with good friends around the campfire at night, you can be sure that you will come away with some really enjoyable memories. The Texas Rifles leadership is just as concerned with delivering safety as it is enjoyment. You will be firing blank cartridges containing black powder, but first you will be taught how and when to fire your weapon and work safely within the unit. During events, our officers and non-commissioned officers will be close by to assure that this safety is maintained.

The Texas Rifles were formed in 1987 and were one of the original members of the Trans-Mississippi battalion. We are now affiliated with the Red River Battalion. Our officer leadership has one of the best reputations in the hobby. During our over thirty year history, the Rifles have participated in events throughout Texas and the United States. At the 1998 Gettysburg reenactment, for example, nearly 30,000 participants and 170,000 spectators were on hand to witness the largest Civil War reenactment ever held in America. Our company has served in several events since then that have had over 10,000 participants.
